At this workshop students will focus principally on the head and shoulders and concentrating on the relationship of eyes to nose to mouth to ears. Students will also learn more about use of form, tone, and colour whilst studying portraits by old masters eg. Rembrandt, El Greco, Velazquez.
If you would like to pain your portraiture please bring a canvas/paper prepared with a medium tone of olive green or brown thus working from dark to light.

Please bring the following with you:
- If Drawing – Thick and thin charcoal sticks, putty rubber, cheap hair spray to fix, good quality paper eg. Cartridge paper – weight 250gms.
- If Painting - Acrylic paint (“System 3”, from PlanaHead, Commercial Road, Eastbourne). For skin tones you will need – eg. – Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White, Heavy duty paper (1400), lining paper in roll (from Brewers), brushes x 4 (smallest 1/2 inch to 2 inches) flat not round (from Pound Shop or similarly cheap), Extras – 2 Rollers (from Planahead), cheap palette knives (Planahead), palette (suitably large), apron, rigid board (18” x 24”) to use as support, bulldog clips x 4, kitchen roll (cheapest eg. from Tesco with no distinct pattern), cotton rag, large wide-necked water container, drafting/masking tape, water spray, newspapers to cover table and floor.
